Corneal Wound Healing After Keratorefractive Procedures
نویسنده
چکیده
Bowman’s layer is composed of 22nm heterotypical type I collagen fibrils, which are randomly orientated (mean direction 45o to the corneal surface). Immediately beneath Bowman’s membrane, the cornea is arranged such that there are about 300 lamellae centrally and 500 lamellae peripherally. Each is composed of uniformly paralleldirected, 25nm heterotypical type I collagen fibrils with flattened keratocytes present between some adjacent lamellae. In the anterior third of the stroma, lamellae are orientated in oblique directions to the corneal surface; they branch extensively and are interwoven with other lamellar layers both anteroposteriorly and horizontally.

Visual outcomes and management after corneal refractive surgery: A review.
Corneal refractive surgery procedures are widely performed to permanently correct refractive errors. Overall, refractive surgeries are safe, predictable and present high rates of satisfaction. Nevertheless, the induced epithelial, stromal and nerve damage alters corneal integrity and function, triggering a regenerative response. Complications that arise from corneal wound healing process might ...

Any trauma can trigger a cascade of responses in tissues, with the purpose of safeguarding the integrity of the organ affected by the trauma and of preventing possible damage to nearby organs. Subsequently, the body tries to restore the function of the organ affected. The introduction of the excimer laser for keratorefractive surgery has changed the treatment landscape for correcting refractive...

Although refractive errors are extremely common, their pathogenesis remains undetermined; both genetic and nongenetic factors appear to influence an individual's risk for myopia and the severity of the myopia. The pursuit of good visual acuity without corrective spectacles or contact lenses has spawned a large number of surgical procedures designed to correct myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism,...
متن کاملEffect of dexamethasone in combination with acetylcysteine at different times on corneal wound healing in dogs
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of different time combinations of dexamethasoneand acetylcysteine on experimentally induced corneal ulcers in dogs. Experimental corneal wounds werecreated surgically to the anterior one third of the cornea in the center of all eyes of 15 mixed breed dogs. The eyes were divided into five groups according to planned post-operative medications...
متن کاملEffect of Different Treatment Regimen with Dexamethasone and Acetylcysteine on Corneal Wound Healing in Rabbits
Background: The effect of corticosteroid therapy on corneal wound healing is controversial. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of combination therapy with dexametha-sone and acetylcysteine at different times and durations on experimentally-induced corneal wounds and haze in rabbits. Methods: Eighteen adult New Zealand white rabbits were divided into three groups of ...
